Temporary system back online
Tuesday, February 05, 2008
Apparently, none of you wished me luck in my attempt to get my new PC running smoothly over the weekend that's why until now, despite spending a couple of sleepless nights and several restless hours at the office, there are still glitches in my new PC.

It's running okay, but I can't use some necessary programs because (1) I encounter errors while installing them, or (2) they won't run after I install them. Either way, my obsessive-compulsive side won't let me rest until I got everything straightened out.

But since there are more important things I need to attend to, I had to let Mr. Frost do his magic on the PC. He's got something up his sleeve and he promised the PC will be running smoothly by this weekend.

Let's hope he's right.

Let me catch up on some deadlines first, then I'll spill the news on the goings-on on the home front.

System update in progress...
Saturday, February 02, 2008
Mr. Frost spent almost the whole day setting up our new PC. We encountered unexpected complications, like hardware compatibility issues and controlled devices, but eventually, Mr. Frost was able to have the new computer up and running.

Problem is, when I was installing some more programs, we discovered that some of our files were corrupted. And this is probably because of the interruption caused by my brother's dog while we were copying the files to the new drive. We don't know exactly how much damage was caused, I'm still trying to check the files, but hopefully nothing irreplaceable was affected.

Anyway, I'll be working on this the whole night and Issen's sitter is taking the day off tomorrow so I'm not sure if I can do more updates this weekend. But I'll definitely try, especially since I have several deadlines to meet.

Wish me luck!

More toy talk
Speaking of toys, a good friend is trying to talk us into getting a new flat screen TV. See, he bought himself a hot, spanking, new LCD TV last Christmas. And now, he's claiming that he just wants us to experience game and movie graphics like we've never experienced before, as he is experiencing now.

Just for the heck of it, I pretended that I have cash hard enough to get the best high-end, high-definition TV I could buy. I browsed through the internet, and clueless I may be for the factors I should be considering in buying HDTVs, I found some items really impressive.

I never knew you could get 19-inch LCD TVs for only $350. I mean, I know that these kinds of flats are common nowadays, but I always thought they cost much more. Well, the $350 type is definitely not at par with the more expensive, more complicated ones but hey, I grew up and am still using an ordinary non-flat TV so $350 for a flat screen TV is good enough for me.

I also stumbled upon great deals for those bigger, higher end LCD screens. They sure are making owning a nice toy of a 47-inch flat screen TV a lot easier with those price deals. Imagine owning one of the best LCD TVs in the market today while being able to save as much as $150. Imagine what you can buy with that extra $150. I'd buy something to enjoy my TV with, definitely.

Ah, the finer things in life. They sure make you want to have them every time you see them. Too bad I just had imaginary "cold cash". I would have bought myself a 57-inch HDTV just so I can see the freckles under all the make up of some actor in whatever movie I feel like criticizing. :)

New month, new toys
Friday, February 01, 2008
It's the first day of the second month of the year! And what do I get?

A new workstation AND a new PC at home! Ah yeah!

Yep, that's the reason why I wasn't able to update my blog yesterday. I was busy backing up my files - at work during the day and at home come night time.

I finally moved (physically) to my new office. It's a temporary set up, though, because renovations will take place soon so we'll still be moving around the area. But I got pretty much settled down with the workstation assigned to me. Much faster, more space, better graphics, and wider, flatter monitor! Work feels better already.

And Mr. Frost insisted we get a new PC this (payday) time. My old PC at home has been begging for a replacement, an upgrade at least, for the longest time. The one we got costs actually a bit higher than what we expected to be, but at least we won't have to worry for another updgrade for at least two years. We just chose a pre-built CPU package because my monitor is still working fine, but hell, I've got a much faster PC, with more space and better graphics, to do my blogs with!

My new home PC isn't set up yet. Mr. Frost will attend to it this weekend. So that means no pics yet. I'll post the pics tomorrow. Can't wait! Am soooooo excited!

EXHIBIT 002 - Console Chart
Monday, January 14, 2008
Video gamers in budget are faced with a dilemma: which video game system should I get? I say those who are in budget because those who have money to burn do not experience this problem. They simply buy all three next-generation consoles in the market.

There's the PlayStation 3, or more commonly known as PS3, from Sony. Microsoft released Xbox 360 and Nintendo has their Wii.

All three has their own pros and cons, and I know several people losing sleep over which console to buy. I recently found a way to help you decide between a PS3, an Xbox360, a Wii, and even a PC. Presenting the Console Chart...

This image never fails to amuse me any time of the day.

No offense to next-gen console owners. I hope you still have some sense of humor left in you after hours of playing with your toys.

By the way, I don't know where exactly this image originated from, because what I got was just the imageShack link. In case you stumble upon the source of this chart, please let me know.

Exhibits on the 200th post
Monday, January 07, 2008
As mentioned in my previous post, "my new toy suffered its first (and hopefully the last) physical injury" recently.

Thanks to Hector and Hazel, I was able to take pics of my camera's damage.

Here are the two worst "injuries". More pics here.

I haven't called the Sony Service Center yet to inquire how deep I have to dig in my pockets to have my camera restored. The guy from the workshop I attended said the whole casing will be replaced. Good luck to me.

Well, whaddayaknow. This is my 200th post in this blog. Cool.

"Flawless" no more
Sunday, January 06, 2008
Yesterday, my new toy suffered its first (and hopefully the last) physical injury.

Mr. Frost and SkyClad were planning to spend the whole day modding their toys. Mr. Frost will also be building his Gundam, our long-awaited 1/100 MG Gundam Mk II Ver.2 Titans. SkyClad brought two types of tripod, one long and the other the short one usually used on table tops, so they can take nice pictures of their toys for "documentation purposes." Excited as they are, they set up the camera on the big tripod first way before they were ready to take pictures. And with Issen roaming around their area while they were too busy with their stuff, what do you think would happen?

I really felt bad about it, because I was making extra effort to take care of it, jut as I promised Mr. Frost. The camera's still functioning perfectly, it's just that now it has some deep scratches and a slight dent in one corner. I was thinking to have it fixed or have the housing replaced at the Sony Service Center. I'm pretty sure it's not covered by the warranty, so I'll ask how much would it cost me to bring back it's "flawless" skin.

Anyway, in the afternoon, I was scheduled to go to Sony Philippines' Basic Photography with my Cyber-shot Workshop. I signed up for it since my purchase of my new toy last month gave me the benefit of attending the workshop for free. Also, because the workshop venue is practically a stone's throw away from our house so I say, what the heck. If the workshop turned out to be a waste of time, at least I'd get freebies. I read in one of their posters that I'd get something, I just didn't know what. Yep, I'm a sucker for freebies!

The workshop was scheduled at 1:30PM, and I left the house at 1:15PM, without eating lunch, may I add. I was planning to pass by McDonald's near the venue, but the drive-thru line was too long that I asked the cab driver to just go straight to the venue. There was no snacks offered, just menthol candies, so all throughout the workshop I was praying that it would end soon, or at least they give us a few minutes break just so I can eat. No such luck. It ended around 4PM.

The workshop turned out fine. Out of eight confirmed attendees, only four of us came. For someone who didn't take two photography subjects during college, the "product training" was very useful and informative. For me, I didn't hear anything I haven't heard before. But it was still good for my memory to be refreshed. I toyed with my camera instead of letting the facilitator bore me to death. Here are a couple of my close-up shots using the Macro setting of the camera.

A blast from the past. Classic Mongol pencil in B/W. Hehehe.

Glorified teeny weeny fruit basket

And I was right, there were freebies. Nothing very fancy, but nice ones all the same.

First, they gave us Cyber-shot notepads and pens. The pen was cool because it lights up and came in a package with extra batteries and pen refill. You should know, by the way, that I appreciate life's simple pleasures. In Filipino, mababaw ang kaligayahan ko.

Next, they did a demo of their printer and allowed us to have photos printed to take home. I had this one printed.

Since the others didn't want free photo printing, only one of 'em followed me to the printed, the facilitator egged me on to have more pictures printed. I would have, if I wasn't dizzy from hunger.

They also gave us 20% discount on all accessories, good for that day and for that branch only. However, if they don't have stock of the accessory we want, they could order for us and we could just pay when we pick the item up. I would have taken advantage of this as I was eyeing this particular camera bag and mini tripod, if I wasn't dizzy from hunger.

What can I say? I can't think very clearly anymore so I opted to just go and buy something to eat and head home. Besides, I took my hunger as a sign that the items I wanted to buy impulsively were not for me. At least I saved more than a thousand bucks.

When I got home and had my fill of burgers, fried chicken, spaghetti, and nuggets, Mr. Frost showed me these.

1/100 MG Gundam Mk II Ver.2 Titans, Frost version

Click on the images to enlarge and to better appreciate. Let's wait for Mr. Frost to put up more detailed pics on his blog as these two don't give justice to its "incredibly realistic posing".

Gotta go now, another work week coming up.

Hope you guys had a nice weekend!

The weekend that was...
Monday, December 17, 2007
In my previous post, I said that I'm not posting my adventures last weekend asI decided to post my adventures last weekend as I "had this feeling that some people might not really care about how my weekend went."

Since when did I care about what people think of what I post in my blog?

Since I started my campaign advocating universal understanding.

Oh well, I decided to post anyway what I wrote so far since I already spent time writing them. And doing so helped me relax and kept my brain from stagnating.

If you find it too boring for you, don't worry. I'm sure I'll have a better, more eventful weekend next time. Just let me indulge in this post.

*~_~*~_~*

Saturday, Mr. Frost went to Greenhills with SkyClad to buy his toys. I didn't go with them because I wanted to spend time with Issen. I didn't dare bring the kid to Greenhills this time of the year. Imagine the crowd in a shopping territory during Christmas time. Definitely not for a one-year-old accompanied by his pregnant mom.

We went instead to my aunt's house blessing with my parents. The place was nice and my aunt was overjoyed when she saw Issen. She was even more ecstatic when she found out I'm pregnant again.

Issen fell asleep on the way home so I went to Market! Market! by myself to do some G-cash transactions (Yes, I went ebay shopping again. ). Afterwards, I went around the Fashion Market section of the mall and looked for gifts for my mom and Issen's nanny. I wanted to do my grocery shopping also but decided against it when I realized how hard it would be to get a ride home later that night.

Sure enough, getting a ride home at 7PM was hell. I was tired, hungry, and pregnant, and my feet were killing me, so after 30mins of trying to get a cab, I decided to take the jeep instead. Yes, it's hot and crowded, but at least I'll be sitting already and it would take me home in a few minutes. The line at the jeepney loading area was long but it moved quickly as there were many jeepneys waiting for their turn to bring shoppers tired home.

When I got home, Mr. Frost and SkyClad were already there, checking out their new toys. I'm glad Mr. Frost bought Thor, my all-time favorite Marvel character. Good thing he got the one from Marvel Legends Series 3; we both think it's the best Thor ever.

The actual toy looks way better than this, but thanks to Toymania for the image.

He also got Giant-Man with miniature Ant-Man and Wasp, Professor_X, Vision, Spiderman, and Archangel. Pics to follow.

Sunday, we went to Park Square to buy paint for Mr. Frost's Gun Cannon Gundam. Then we went to SM Makati to do our grocery. Good thing we went early as the crowd started to pour in at around lunchtime.

We got home, had lunch, then Mr. Frost went to camp at his usual corner at the garage to put his Gundam together. Issen was so irresistibly adoring that I played with him right away.

We walked around the garage, out the street, visited a neighbor, back to the street, then went back to the garage and walked some more. I enjoy watching him explore the world around him. It's even more fun when he's trying to run after his Lolo's (grandfather) chickens.

When I got a little tired walking after him, I put him in his bike and we strolled along the streets. That just got me more tired so we went home and I called his nanny to watch him while I take a rest.

I went inside the room, planning to take a nap, but the force of the gifts waiting to be wrapped was too strong. So I wrapped them peacefully (imagine the chaos if Issen was in the same room ). Afterwards, I went inside the room to get a few minutes rest before it's time to put Issen to sleep.

I think the little tyke sensed that it's work day again for Mom and Dada the next day because he styed up until past 11PM. He already knows to make the most of our weekend playtime.
