The friend in need
Tuesday, January 08, 2008
A friend gave me a call a while ago and asked me if I could help her. She has cousins coming from abroad and they want to go around see all the sights the country is famous for. My friend, who doesn't enjoy being a tour guide even for her relatives, asked me if I could go with her and her cousins.

I can't tell if she was kidding or not. I'm almost in my third trimester of pregnancy, for goodness' sake! And she knows that, as she bugging me just last week suggesting names for the baby.

According to her, the places she's planning to bring her cousins to are all pregnant- and baby-safe, like the beach and other sceneries. Yeah, they're all safe for me if I don't have to travel at least 2 hours by plane and at least 5 hours by land to reach any of those destinations. The only places in her list that are in town are Casinos and clubs, both of which they plan to go to in the wee hours of the morning.

I have nothing against any of the places she mentioned, but I certainly wish her invitation came about two years ago, when I wasn't pregnant nor have a toddler to take care of. It would have been a great adventure, but alas, the opportunity came a little too late.

Oh well, maybe next time. Or if she can wait for at least six more months and she's willing to shoulder my expenses, including accommodation, fare, food, and other miscellaneous expenses for me, my husband, my two sons (by that time I would have given birth already), and at least one baby sitter.

Needless to say, I politely declined and wished her luck.
